Ellison, Allison Landing, and Poston Landing

The landing-name cluster preserves the older river identity behind the modern Poston place-name.

The older locality

The place now known as Poston developed from an older river locality commonly treated in this archive as Ellison. The associated landing names appear in several forms: Allison Landing, Allisons Landing, Ellison’s Landing, Ellisons Landing, and Poston Landing.

The correct treatment is not to treat those names as separate towns. They are best handled as a layered place-name cluster connected to the same river-access geography near the Great Pee Dee River.

Why the names matter

For search and historical interpretation, these alternate names help connect the railroad-era Poston community to the older river-port and landing history that preceded the public use of the Poston name.
